Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), announced at a press conference on Thursday that the scientific tests conducted by the agency have endorsed Indomie Instant Noodles as safe for consumption.
During the media briefing, Adeyeye emphasized the safety of locally-produced Indomie noodles in Nigeria. She assured consumers that the 'Special Chicken Flavour' variant, which was recalled in Taiwan and Malaysia, is not available in the Nigerian market.
The NAFDAC DG explained that a comprehensive testing process was conducted involving 114 samples of instant noodles and additives. These samples were collected from various factories, Lagos markets, Abuja, and Kano. The testing employed two methodologies: Gas Chromatography, which is an analytical technique for separating and detecting chemical components, and Mass Spectrometry Detector, an analytic approach used to identify chemical substances through the sorting of gaseous ions in electric and magnetic fields.
Adeyeye attributed the delay in releasing the test results to the importation of necessary reagents and technology and the agency's commitment to conducting a rigorous and scientifically sound evaluation.
To demonstrate her confidence in the test results, the NAFDAC DG consumed a well-prepared Instant Noodles meal during the conference, with her colleagues expressing their desire to partake in it.
Dufil Prima Foods Limited, the manufacturer of Indomie, the leading noodles brand in Nigeria, confirmed the positive outcome of the NAFDAC laboratory tests. Temitope Ashiwaju, the Group Corporate Communications and Event Manager at Dufil Prima Foods Plc highlighted the company's dedication to maintaining the highest quality standards both nationally and internationally, as well as its support for the local economy.
Ashiwaju emphasized the company's unwavering commitment to delivering unmatched quality to its consumers. He stated, "Our consumers have trusted the quality of our products for years, which is why they remained loyal to the brand even during the testing process. The taste of Indomie noodles is unparalleled, the quality is incomparable, backed by consistent innovation, and we regularly conduct in-house quality assurance tests. We proudly maintain our position as the number one instant noodles brand in Nigeria."
Speaking from the Dufil Prima Foods Lagos office, Ashiwaju added, "Indomie instant noodles are manufactured in Nigeria, and our operations have been ongoing for over three decades. We have improved local capacity utilization, leading to enhanced production, and we aim to exceed both local and international standards, which will further drive employment and meet market demands."
